The multiple is half the calculation

A wagering requirement states how much must be staked before bonus funds become withdrawable, and it is usually quoted as a multiple. That number is the part everyone looks at and it is not, on its own, enough to evaluate anything. Two figures sit alongside it and each can change the answer by a factor of several: what the multiple is applied to, and how much the games you actually intend to play contribute toward clearing it. An offer with a modest-looking multiple applied to bonus plus deposit, cleared on games weighted at a fraction, can require several times the turnover of an offer whose headline multiple looks worse.

Does clearing wagering mean losing that much money?

No, and this is the most common misreading in both directions. Wagering is a turnover requirement: it counts total stakes, and the same money can be staked repeatedly as it cycles. What you lose is not the turnover but the house edge applied across it, which is why the size of the requirement and the games you clear it on both matter to the real cost.

Why are table games often weighted lower?

Because they typically carry a smaller house edge, which makes them a cheaper place to generate turnover. Weighting them down keeps the cost of clearing an offer roughly consistent across games. It is an internally coherent design, and it also means the games many experienced players prefer are the slowest way to clear a bonus.

Is there a quick way to compare two offers?

Work out the total turnover each requires on the games you would genuinely play — take the multiple, apply it to the correct base, then divide by the weighting of your intended games. That single figure is comparable across offers in a way that headline amounts are not, and it takes under a minute once you have found the three inputs.
